Journey to the Cross

Last night for youth service, we put on a “Journey to the Cross” following the outline you can get at Youth Specialties.  I had read this years ago, and during the service last Sunday I felt God empress on me that it would be great for the Youth to do.  Essentially, it involves 13 stages that each represent a moment in the week leading up to the Resurrection.  At each stage there was a devotional that each student would read and think about as they sat at that station.  Also, several had prayer journals for the student to write on.  It was meant to be a very quiet and solemn event, and I was worried that it would hard to pull off with a group of 17 young people.  But the power of God was strong in that place, and for an hour and a half barely anyone spoke a word.  Just about the only sound was the nailing of sins to the Cross (read on to see what I mean).  It really was an awesome experience and I’m so glad that we did this.  And thanks to my wonderful wife for helping to put it all together.

The Crucifixion - Each student wrote a sin down and nailed it to the cross.  I can’t describe how powerful it was to keep hearing this pounding.

Jesus’ Death - At the end of the devotional, the student would blow a candle out to represent the death of Jesus.
