Subnet Madness

I have been on the phone entirely too long today.  It started last night when I got two emails returned to me last night that I had sent on Friday.  These emails were to a domain that we set up as a secondary zone Friday afternoon.  As soon as I saw them I was suspicious that something had went wrong.  When I arrived at work this morning, I was made painfully aware from our employees that something was most definitely wrong.  All emails that had gone out Friday had been bounced back.  This is not good because the majority of our email probably goes to this company.

Well, I go looking and the problem turns out to be that all of the connections we set up on Friday worked very neatly as long as you used the right subnet.  Our Spam filter is not on that subnet.  So, I look at the queue and 173 emails are sitting there waiting for the other companies exchange server to return its handshake and take delivery of its emails.

After hours of working, tweaking, scratching our heads, tweaking some more, we finally came to a solution.  Erase all of the changes that we made on Friday and wait until another day to figure it out.  Sounded like a plan to me.

One last note, I hadn’t had anything to eat all day, so I went by Wendy’s on the way home.  At the same time, I was talking to a tech concerning our SPAM firewall and requesting them to remote in and flush its DNS cache.  It was an interesting trip ordering food and speaking to someone who’s accent (I believe Asian) was so heavy I honestly could only pick up a word or two.  (Not meaning at all to demean the tech.  He was very knowledgeable)
