My Job

At my workplace, I am somewhere between a desktop support technician and a systems administrator.  I am responsible for server maintenance and support, desktop support for hardware/software, phone system, security system, website, etc.  I work their approximately 40 hours per week, which can flucuate up or down.  I’m on call as well, in case someone runs into a problem after hours.

However, all that I just said is not my job.  It is a responsibility of mine, but not my job.  My job, should I choose to accept it, is to be a light to a lost and dying world and to be a light to my fellow brethren in Christ.  In short, my job is to be a Christian.

Entirely too often I forget this job.  I replace it with a corporate mentality that seeks to shape me as a person of aggressiveness, greed, selfishness, and uncompassion.  A business world that, all too often, simply does not line up with the teachings of Christ.

This morning, though, I remember my job, and I ask my maker to help me live up to that challenge.  While I can’t guaruntee that I’ll be successful in my IT career without living up to the coporate image, or even successful in the church community or family or my hobbies or anywhere else, I can say that at the end of the day, I’m still going to be a Christian.

It’s that job that I’m aiming for a good review on.  I’m hoping for a, “Well done…”
