“Look… Real Grease!”

Posted November 3rd @ 4:59 pm by Baba

Today I performed my first automotive repairs.  Growing up enthralled by books, computers, and video games, I never took an opportunity to learn anything about cars.  As I moved into adulthood, I learned how to check oil, water, tire pressure, and change a tire, but I’ve never actually done any repair or hardcore maintenance.  I referred to myself as automotively (I realize that isn’t a word) illiterate.  Until today.  Today, I personally changed the oil in a 1991 Camry and crawled under it with the intention to grease it only to find out that it is a sealed system.  I then took off the wheels of another car to check out the brakes.  Finally, I jacked up the rear end of our Minivan and checked the grease level in the rear end, which has been leaking some lately.  Then, just to top off all that manly exertion, I carried some logs and threw them in a fire while beating my chest and bellowing.

Many thanks to my Father-In-Law for helping me and explaining everything to me.  I had a lot of fun learning something entirely new to me.  Plus, I got very dirty, which in and of itself holds a sense of enjoyment for any guy :) .
